$35k CAD before taxes, wouldn’t be surprised if it went up to $40k as I don’t know what kind of deals dealers will offer on them. What are the odds that people will go: a) it’s too expensive!; b) I’d buy one, but all these other cars are better for the same price; or c) I’ll buy one used once they depreciate!

No , because it’s still got that dumb asymmetric door.

I don’t think it’s that dumb.

What Hyundai won't say. The performance package is standard equipment up here, it's an option in the USA.

I actually really like it and am suggesting it to a friend in the market for a unique/quirky hot hatch. I’m pretty annoyed they said it was coming in Fall 18 though and it still has no internet info on a US for sale date.
Anyway, I’ve suggested to my friend that it’s prudent to wait about 1 quarter or more because they will drop in price enough to be a steal that quick. It shouldn’t be like that really, but Hyundai still has a stigma even though they’ve been on the way up for years.

I’m thinking definitely ‘C’. In my opinion, v alues are gonna drop like a rock. Hyundai’s/Kias have historically never had good resale value.
I really hope the car does well, I feel like the value ho t hatch/sport compact segment is getting squeezed. I’m just afraid the dealers will squash any chance the Veloster N has with ridiculous markups and bad dealership experience. I’ve had some limited experience with a couple of the top Hyundai/Kia dealers in my city and it’s been pretty abysmal on both the sales and service sides.

They should sell the N30... whatever little brand recognition the Veloster had... I don’t think it’s worth it.

I dunno, I’d prefer the more useful th ough tamer Elantra GT Sport. Or Civic hatchback Sport. Or GTI. Or Corolla XSE.

Yeah, my girlfriend had some crap experience with the local Hyundai dealership. It’s definitely a big issue.

No clue. I hope so, it's a neat hot hatch.

Oh man you should’ve seen the emails and texts my wife got spammed with after we test drove a Forte5. All caps, no semblance of spelling or grammar. I’m surprised her email’s spam filters didn’t pick it up.

Then again you are wrong about a lot of things.

All three. I quite like it, and feel Hyundai offered a lot for the money so I bought a Kona to replace my sadly totalled best friend: 2008 Suzuki SX4. The Kona was already 8k more, which I justified as 10 years and lots of tech, but still feel sad about ( I always buy new cars but still want to spend as little as possible). If not for my height and desire for a tad more ground clearance for mountain roads, the Veloster was damned tempting... but I can’t wrap my head around 35k plus taxes for a hatch. All dealers in SoCal were attentive and helpful, but none wanted to negotiate price: they did not care if I walked, so they must not make enough ( on the Kona, anyhow). The US margins are thin else cost of business too high? I did feel the same at other brands: lower end cars in SoCal sell well enough that they don’t care, I guess. But at what price point does that stop? Will they negotiate for the N, or is inventory too low to bother? I agree Hyundai’s lose value immediately, so maybe a 6mo or 2yr used from a lease will get to sub 30k and seem worth it?

Keep in mind this is a Canadian price, so it’ll be cheaper in the states, but yeah, it seems like the uptake on new ones will be low, and that means that they might not depreciate like people are expecting.

I missed the CAN part, figured the N costed way more. My bad. Inventory seems low in the US, it trickles in, and I don’t expect these will sit on lots too long depending on the market.

B. It’s a good car and fair price but I think most people in the market will just make the $5k jump to the CTR.

I’m sad they got rid of the second roof window at the back. I’m sure i t was useless for visibility but it was the coolest part of the car. The new one is just a squashed hatchback.

They are on lots now.

Hope they sell a bunch.
Wish we could get the i30 N in the States.

I think it’s going to be on my list for cars to check out after I graduate. Base MSRP in the US is supposed to be just under 28k. Car and driver compared that price point to the CTR and Golf R, but I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to compete with the CSi and GTI. I can’t find a build and price tool for it though?

If I was seriously in the market for a hatch in that price range, that’s close enough to the GTI that I’d probably just get a GTI. Or save some money and get the Elantra GT Sport since they won’t sell an Elantra GT N

Apparently all the ones around us are still shipping and will be here between Feb and March.
